Education:
In 1984 he graduated from the Kyrgyz State University named after 50th anniversary of the USSR, Department of Hydrometeorology of the Faculty of Geography. He completed postgraduate course in the National Academy of Science of KG and defended PhD thesis on «Glaciation of the Tien-Shan, its modern state, evolution and geochemistry».
Work experience:
After graduating from the university he worked in the Hydrometeorological Service of KG. In the period from 1987 to 1990 he worked in the secondary school educational system. From 1990 to 1992 he had been working in the State Committee for Nature Protection of KG – in the Issyk-Kul Region Committee on Environmental Protection and Interregional Ecological Research Service Center. He began his academic scientific activity in 1992 at the Tien Shan High-altitude Physical and Geographical Station of the Geography Department of the M.M. Adyshev Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic. In the period from 1992 to 2007, he worked, passing all scientific official levels, up to the position of acting head of the Laboratory of Glaciology and High-altitude Lakes of the Department of Geography of the IG of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic. Since 2007, he has been working as a senior researcher in the Department No. 2 "Climate, Water and Natural Resources" of the CAIAG. Since 2016 (until September, acting) and currently works as the head of the department.
Over a long period of field work, he surveyed and made observations on a number of glaciers of the Tien Shan and Pamir-Alai. He often served as the head of the expedition team. He worked on a new direction in the glaciology of the Tien Shan - geochemistry. The research results are presented in various scientific publications and reports. He has published alone and co-authored more than 80 scientific papers, both in publishing houses of Kyrgyzstan and abroad. Actively participates and reports the results of his work in various conferences, symposiums and seminars related to modern glaciation, hydrology and climate of high-altitude zones.
Work and cooperation in projects:
Within the framework of the Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, he worked in various joint projects, including international ones, as one of the main executors of projects. The project of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic (2006) – "Engineering and geological surveys of landslide sites in M: 1:100 000, with the creation of an electronic database and the development of risk mitigation measures on the territory of Kyrgyzstan (on the example of the Chui region)". From 2001 to 2003 in the project of the International Scientific and Technical Center (ISTC) "Study of climate change in the high-altitude zone of the Tien Shan based on the study of the composition of the annual layers of the glacier." In 2005-2006 in the Kyrgyz-Czech project "Monitoring of high-altitude glacial lakes and protection of the population from the catastrophic consequences of floods resulting from the breakthrough of moraine dams".
In CAIAG within the framework of international and joint projects, such as "Global Change Observatory in Central Asia" (GCO – Global Change Observatory in Central Asia, since 2009), "Water in Central Asia" (CAWA – "Water in Central Asia", 2008 - 2016), "Capacity Building and Climate Monitoring Service" (CATCOS – "Capacity Building and Twinning for Climate Observing Systems", 2013 - 2015), "Climate Data cryospheres to improve adaptation" (CICADA – "Cryosphere Ice Climate Services for improved Adaptation", 2017-2020), "Adaptation to climate change based on an ecosystem approach in high-altitude areas of Central Asia" (EbA – "Ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in high mountainous areas of Central Asia", 2016-2020), etc. with the GFZ (Potsdam, Germany), the Universities of Fribourg and Zurich (Switzerland), the University of Humboldt (Berlin, Germany), etc.
Actively maintains scientific contacts, cooperates and works in the study of modern glaciation, hydrology and climate of high-altitude zones with both scientists of Kyrgyzstan and scientists from near and far abroad. For example, the Geographical Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Glaciology Department of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Glaciological Center of Central Asia at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, etc.
Social and scientific work:
From 2004 to 2007, Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of the Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic. From 2006 to 2016, he was a member of the Dissertation Council for the Defense of doctoral and Candidate Dissertations at the Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, and from 2009 to 2016, Scientific Secretary of the Dissertation Council. On a part-time basis, he was engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities in schools and universities of the republic. He was a co-supervisor of a PhD student and advises graduate students. Since 2009, he has been periodically invited by the Chairman of the SAC in universities of Kyrgyzstan in the areas of geography and geoecology. National Correspondent of the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS - World glacier monitoring service). He was a member of the Commission of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic on environmental control in the area of the high-mountain Kumtor mine.
The main direction of scientific research is glaciology: the regime and dynamics of glaciers, the hydrology of glaciers and the climate of high-altitude zones, the geochemistry of glaciers, glacial lakes and water resources;
