Co-Director of CAIAG, Bolot Moldobekov, participated in events dedicated to the First World Glacier Day and World Water Day, as part of the International Year of Glacier Preservation, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris (French Republic) on March 20–21.
The official opening was held with the participation of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, French Minister of Ecology Agnès Pannier-Runachet, as well as delegations from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Italy, Chile, other countries and international organizations.
The events discussed current issues of scientific research, experience, knowledge and technology exchange, as well as socio-economic aspects and negative impacts of glacier melting on water resources, sustainable development, food and energy security. Additionally, political solutions and the mobilization of financial resources for glacier preservation and addressing the adverse effects of climate change were considered.
Within the thematic event on climate change impacts “From Glaciers to the Ocean: Examples of Different Regions”, Bolot Moldobekov made a presentation on “Monitoring of the Kyrgyzstan Cryosphere in the context of Climate Change”
