German-Kyrgyz Science Day Held in Bishkek
On May 15, 2025, the German-Kyrgyz Science Day took place at the Novotel Hotel in Bishkek, bringing together key representatives from science and research institutions of Germany and Kyrgyzstan. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bishkek, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The day opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Gabriela Guellil, German Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Florian Frank from BMBF, and Albert Machmetkulov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science.
The program featured high-level presentations from institutions including the German Research Foundation (DFG), National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences, Germany, Leibniz IAMO, Freie Universität Berlin, University of Central Asia, and CAIAG.
Dr. Bolot Moldobekov, Co-Director of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG), presented information on CAIAG’s activities, highlighting its role in applied geosciences and international cooperation in the region.
Afternoon sessions highlighted ongoing and prospective joint research projects in healthcare, geosciences, energy, agriculture, biodiversity, and the social sciences. The day concluded with a panel on funding opportunities and a reception hosted by BMBF, reaffirming the commitment to deepening German-Kyrgyz scientific collaboration.
