Participation in the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union EGU25
The General Assembly of the European Union of Geosciences was held from April 28 to May 2, 2025. The European Geosciences Union is the leading organization for the exploration of the Earth, planets and space. EGU25 was attended by 20984 participants from 120 countries in Vienna, Austria and from 104 countries participating online. Dr. Olga Kalashnikova, Senior Researcher of the Climate, Water and Geoecology Department of CAIAG, took part in it. There were 1102 scientific sessions, 18934 papers both oral and poster presentations at the conference.
Dr. Kalashnikova O.Yu. presented a report on glacier and snow cover monitoring, supporting the Glacier Conservation Year initiative. The content of the report is devoted to scientific approaches in the study of glaciers and snow both with the use of satellite sensing data using the MODSNOW program, and expeditions with the participation of experts from Germany, Switzerland and other countries in addition to glaciologists of CAIAG. The results of CAIAG work are publicly available and include calculations of glacier mass balance, methods for prevention of dangerous hydrological phenomena, etc.
During the conference it was possible to get acquainted and ask questions to the speakers from Central Asia and other countries, as well as to support colleagues from scientific institutes of neighboring countries, with which CAIAG closely cooperates in research activities.
It was also possible to explore the exhibition of various international scientific publishers and equipment for the study of various natural processes and phenomena.
During the presentation of the poster presentation by Dr. Kalashnikova O.Yu., a discussion of methodological approaches to snow and glacier studies was held with expert colleagues engaged in research in Central Asia and experts from other countries (USA, UK, Switzerland, etc.).
