Development strategy

Development Strategy

Scientific strategy of Institute is based on systematic approach to the study of environmental processes and appearances, which is vulnerable issue for the population of Central Asia.

This approach defines the necessity of complex, interdisciplinary research, which provides objectivity, and accuracy of results. In this aspect, all the above areas of the research will mutually complement each other through exchange of ideas, methods and research results. CAIAG will seek for a close cooperation with universities, other scientific institutes, NGO and government agencies in Central Asia to complement their work with knowledge and expertise.

Within the main directions of activities, Institute will be focused on the following work areas:

Geodynamics and geo-hazards

  • Relationship study of deep lithospheric processes with geodynamic processes occurring on the surface of the Earth and multistage emergency situations forming disasters;
  • Risk evaluation of the geocatastrophics based on the results of geodynamic and engineering-geological studies (micronization in large cities and industrial areas) including the development of early warning systems and rapid response to strong earthquakes;
  • Study of voltage field and deformation of the earth crust with the use of deep seismological observations and data of navigation satellite system networks (GSSN);
  • Forecast of development trends of dangerous exogenous processes and appearances in the territory of Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian countries due to climate changes. Study of development trends of landslides processes and floods.

“Climate, water and natural recourses”

  • Forecast of climate trend changes. Study of the character of climate change (precipitation, including snow cover, temperature) in the territory of Kyrgyzstan and CA. Development of regional climate models;
  • Forecast of water resources change in Kyrgyzstan and CA due to climate changes. Study glacier development tendency, surface and temporary river runoff, lakes, and groundwater. Development of hydrological models and recommendations on the optimal management of water resources and recommendations to reduce the risk of floods, lake breakthroughs, mudflows, flooding by groundwater.
  • Ground management and rational usage field of study
  • Comprehensive research and risk assessment of pollution from industrial facilities, including trans boundary threats;

"Technical Infrastructure and Informational Management"

 - monitoring system development and management of hazardous natural processes and appearances, common for the territory of Central Asia (integrated reference stations with a communication system);
- Creation of scientific landfills and mobile laboratories with a set of equipment for field measurements
- Organization of a common fund for the informational exchange between scientific organizations of Central Asia countries;
- Organization of the reception Center for storage and distribution of space data, including the ground station receiving satellite images;
- Organization of automatic data processing and transfer of results process.
- Further development and management of the Central Asian geodata base and CAIAG informational infrastructure in open access.
- Creation of a thematic electronic library and integration into a single system for the scientific information exchange.

"Capacity building and scientific cooperation"

 - Development and implementation of educational programs, specialized courses and distance base in priority areas for young scientists.

- Conducting trainings, seminars and capacity building events for department specialists and awareness of local communities in the field of disaster risk of reductions.

Conduct research on the socio-economic assessment of natural resources usage, the effects of climate change and natural disasters, and the development of measures to reduce damageThe CAIAG’s development strategy defines the main activities until 2022; the Goal achievements will improve the scientific and technical infrastructure and increase the potential, solve scientific problems in priority research areas and develop recommendations for making decisions on reducing the risk of ecocatastrophes in Central Asia.
