Central Asian Ministerial Meeting on Progress towards a Comprehensive School Safety System
On September 18-19, 2024, the Central Asian Ministerial Meeting on Progress towards a Comprehensive School Safety System was held in Almaty. Co-Director of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) Bolot Moldobekov took part in the meeting.

The event was organized by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and the World Bank in partnership with the Center, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Government of Japan, and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR). It was timed to coincide with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Education, Environment and Natural Resources, emergency departments of the Central Asian countries, the academic community (CAIAG, Institute of Seismology), as well as the head of the UNDRR regional office Natalia Alonso Cano, the Deputy Regional Office of UNICEF Octavian Bivol, representatives and experts of the regional and country offices of UNICEF, UNDRR, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNESCO, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), children's and youth activists, as well as school principals.
