CAIAG Founders Board and Advisory Board
On September 18, 2017, the regular 10th meeting of the Founders and Advisory Boards of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) was held at the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ, Potsdam, Germany) with the participation of the official delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Kyrgyz delegation included the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. K.Boronov, the Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Mrs. G.Kudayberdieva, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany Mrs. E.Otorgbaev, the academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan Mr. A.Aydaraliev, Mr. A.Kutanov, the co-director of the CAIAG Mr. B.Moldobekov and other members of the CAIAG Supervisory Board.
The CAIAG activity is being successfully implemented since 2005 in the Central Asian region in conducting and supporting researches in the field of geosciences in close cooperation with the GFZ.
During the 10th meeting, projects aimed at reducing risks of natural disasters, which pose a serious threat both for the population of Kyrgyzstan and for the entire Central Asian region, as well as for water resources management in the terms of climate change, were considered.
Within the Board's work, great attention was paid to supporting research of natural processes and phenomena for decision-making by state authorities of Kyrgyzstan in taking preventive measures when planning facilities in disaster risks zones.
Questions were considered to support the youth scientific potential in geo research. German partners established a good network for monitoring natural processes and environmental change, including an early warning system for seismic hazards in order to support the work of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the residents of the cities.
