CAIAG Strengthens Science Diplomacy to Reduce Seismic Risks

On April 25-30, 2026, Co-Director of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences Bolot Moldobekov and Head of the Monitoring Systems and Data Management Department Alexander Zubovich participated in the 16th General Assembly of the Asian Seismological Commission in Tashkent.

At the session entitled "Space Based Geodetic Technologies for Deformation Monitoring," Alexander Zubovich presented a paper on hazard assessment and CAIAG's development of seismic early warning systems.

This session also highlighted GNSS, InSAR, and LiDAR applications for measuring crustal deformation, fault slip, and volcanic inflation.

Bolot Moldobekov presented a paper at the session entitled "Environmental Seismology: Natural and Anthropogenic Signals". Participants shared the results of studies of seismic signals from non-tectonic sources (glaciers, landslides, rivers) and their use in environmental monitoring and the discrimination between natural and human-induced vibrations.

Experts from Asian countries discussed modern approaches to earthquake monitoring. The Assembly served as a platform for strengthening scientific diplomacy to reduce seismic risks.
