CAIAG presented a program on the glaciers of Central Asia at COP-29 in Azerbaijan
From 11 to 22 November 2024, the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the active participation of the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Central Asian Institute forApplied Geosciences (CAIAG) in collaboration with Kyrgyzhydromet, prepared a joint program titled "Current Issues of Glaciers in the Context of Climate Change."

As part of the program, a Side Event dedicated to key issues related to glaciation in Central Asia was held on 16 November in the pavilion of the Kyrgyz Republic. The event was moderated by CAIAG Co-Director Bolot Moldobekov. The Side Event was attended by representatives of WMO, UNESCO, the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), the Glaciological Center of the Institute of Geography of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Ministry of Geology and Mining of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tajhydromet and Kyrgyzhydromet.

The participants discussed the prospects for using advanced glacier monitoring technologies, climate change adaptation strategies and current issues of water resources in the region. The main goal of the event was to deepen the understanding of the impact of climate change on glaciers and water resources in Central Asia, as well as to strengthen cooperation among governmental, private, and scientific organizations.
CAIAG's participation in COP-29 provided an opportunity to highlight the region's current problems related to glaciation and explore potential solutions, and enhance international cooperation in climate research and sustainable development.
