Conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of CAIAG

On October 8-9, 2024, the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) held a conference on “Past Achievements and Future Challenges of Applied Geosciences in Central Asia” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG). The Conference was held within the framework of the “Climate Week” initiative and the series of events “Five Years of Action for Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions (2023-2027)”.

The conference was held in the building of the International University of Kyrgyzstan (IUK) and gathered experts from Central Asian countries, as well as representatives from European countries. The participants discussed current problems and achievements in the field of applied geosciences.

The conference included three parallel workshops:

1. Workshop 1: “Natural Hazard Processes and Phenomena in Central Asia”

2. Workshop 2: “Global Changes and Regional Development in Central Asia: Impact on Water Resources and Cryosphere”

3. Workshop 3: “Mountains and Climate”


Each of the workshops facilitated a constructive exchange of views and ideas, which emphasized the importance of cooperation in research and sustainable development of the region.

In their welcoming words, the organizers noted the significance of the conference for further development of the scientific community and improved interaction between the countries. CAIAG plans to continue working on projects aimed at addressing climate change and natural risks.
