Training on the WEAP Model Held at CAIAG as Part of the WE-ACT Project

On September 10–11, 2026, in Bishkek, the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences —a partner in the WE-ACT project ("Efficient Water Resource Allocation in the Transboundary River Basin of Central Asia")—organized a training session on the use of the WEAP (Water Evaluation and Adaptation Planning) model.

The training was conducted by Brecht D’Haeyer from the company FutureWater.

The course included hands-on work with the WE-ACT WEAP model for the Syr Darya basin and the Naryn-Fergana system. Participants learned how to run the WEAP model and interpret its results; they also examined issues regarding water resource allocation, reservoir operations, and hydropower generation under various climate scenarios. Special attention was paid to the potential for integrating the WEAP model with the miraX DSS decision support system.

Participants received certificates upon completion of the training. The event served as a platform to develop the capacity of specialists from Kyrgyzstan in integrated water resources management and the application of modern modeling tools.
