Seismic Early Warning System Developed by CAIAG Presented in Tashkent
On October 19–20, 2026, in Tashkent, co-director of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences Bolot Moldobekov and Head of the Monitoring Systems and Data Management Department at CAIAG Alexander Zubovich participated in the Second Regional Dialogue on Urban Resilience, themed "Enhancing Urban Resilience to Disaster Risks and Climate Change, and Ensuring Seismic Safety".
During a session focused on strengthening seismic safety in Central Asia, Bolot Moldobekov delivered a presentation titled "Towards the Establishment of an Earthquake Early Warning System".
Experts from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, alongside representatives from international organizations, discussed issues such as increasing urbanization, inefficient land use and spatial planning, and the insufficient integration of risk-related data into planning processes. The discussions also covered Switzerland’s experience in seismic risk management, Japan’s approaches to urban resilience and climate change adaptation, and scientific-technical cooperation among the seismological institutes of Central Asian nations.
CAIAG Co-Director Bolot Moldobekov signed a Protocol of Intent aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of urban resilience.
