CAIAG Supports the "Science Adventures: Women and Glaciers in Central Asia" Program
On August 28, 2026, the results of the "Science Adventures: Women and Glaciers in Central Asia" program were presented.
In welcoming speech Co-Director of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences Dr. Bolot Moldobekov noted the importance of glacier research in the context of climate change and highlighted the contributions of women scientists.
The "Science Adventures: Women and Glaciers in Central Asia" program aims to foster glacier research, the practical application of knowledge, critical thinking, and self-expression among women in science.
At the closing event, program participants presented the results of their fieldwork on the Golubin Glacier. During the expedition, they studied the impact of surface albedo on glacier melting, juniper growth in the Ala-Archa Gorge, and changes in glacial water characteristics. A staff member of CAIAG’s Monitoring Systems and Data Management Department Perizat Imanalieva served as the team's scientific coordinator and instructor.
The project is implemented by the University of Freiburg, with support of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences.
