CAIAG staff participated in a conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development"
From May 25-28, 2026, staff members of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences Ryskul Usubaliev, Olga Kalashnikova, Nazgul Alybaeva and Nargiza Shaidyldaeva, led by Co-Director Bolot Moldobekov, participated in the 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
CAIAG Co-Director Bolot Moldobekov presented a report "Kyrgyzstan's Glaciers in the Context of Climate Change," and participated in a discussion of the project's results and lessons for future action, under the theme "Cooperation for a Sustainable Future: The Cryosphere and Climate Risks".

Head of the Capacity Development and Scientific Cooperation Department Nazgul Alybaeva presented a paper entitled "CAIAG Research on Climate Change: Water Resources, Glaciers, and Natural Disasters".

Head of the Climate, Water, and Geoecology Department Olga Kalashnikova participated in the panel discussion "Planning the Future: Tools for Improving Water Resources Management in Central Asia," which focused on examples of scientific tools for advancing the digital agenda.
On May 27, experts from the Central Asia Water and Hydropower Program (CAWEP) presented a drought assessment presentation at a meeting on the Rapid Drought Risk and Resilience Assessment in Central Asia. During the exchange of views on future project actions, CAIAG was presented as a promising scientific basis for developing a drought assessment platform.


The Dushanbe conference aims to strengthen cooperation to address water-related issues and accelerate the implementation of the Water Action Decade.
The discussions in Dushanbe served as preparation for the UN Water Conference, which aims to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. The UN conference is scheduled for December 2026 in the United Arab Emirates.
