Central Asia Summer GNSS School

The International Summer GNSS School, organized by the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences from Potsdam (GFZ) with the financial support of the Volkswagen Foundation, was held in the Soluxe hotel of Bishkek on 12-16 March.

Teachers from the United States and Germany trained 28 participants from 7 countries: Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan with high-precision (up to few millimeters) GPS data processing using the Gamit / Globk software package developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.

The need to use these programs is very high. All these countries are in a high-risk zone and timely monitoring of both natural hazards associated with landslides, tectonic faults, glaciers, etc., and man-made objects: dams, gas and oil fields, industrial facilities and individual buildings is very relevant.

The second phase of the Summer GNSS School, to which the professor from MIT is invited, will be held in early July of this year.
